I see this work as the experimental arena in which I explore and manipulate pure abstract elements of painting. In the Gap paintings, the gap or opening symbolises a threshold into space out of which the colours and forms materialise to create a sense of relative movement - variably slow to fast, often breaking out of and beyond the edges of the canvas.
